A Tree Haiku, and Other Things

In the beautiful Logan - Dirty Face Trail of Northwest Montana, near the end of a hitch spent hiking and brushing uphill, the crew faces up against a huge, 200-year-old fallen tree in the middle of the trail. The time and the frustrated grunts spent with the cross-cut that day were all worth it when at last the sawed tree fell to the ground with a thud, and we heaved it off the trail. Satisfaction filled our minds and our limbs as we hiked back down the trail, and life was good.
