Building Character While Building Fences

Our best day as a crew also happened to be one of the most physically demanding days. As a crew, we thrived when the task at hand was tough. We built a jackleg fence with the head of the range department, a local rancher, a recreation volunteer, and various fire crew members. Our crew worked incredibly well with these many project partners, and were super helpful towards them and towards each other! (We’d been struggling with cohesiveness in the previous week, so this was huge.) The day included harvesting rails, carrying them to the fence site, peeling logs, and hammering the actual fence together.  Our crew thrived in this environment because our success was laid out right in front of us.
