As I pen these words we have been three days in the Montana woods and now make our travels towards the Yukon. Our party has suffered a great many hardships during this time, including maladies of the flesh which hitherto have slowed our progress severely. Perhaps the greatest of tribulations has been a dessert famine as none of the crew nor I has taken as much as an Oreo since our journey began. Despite these the men appear to be in good humor and I entertain the most confident hope that our journey to be at an end before the morrow. At present the setting sun has given the valley which I gaze a most pleasant and goodly character.
