Expedition is a summer service experience based out of Billings, Montana for teens (15-17) of veteran and military families of OIF and OEF. There is no enrollment fee for this program. Upon completion of the full four weeks, participants receive a $200 service award.

Expedition members, spend four weeks camping, working, serving, and learning in some of Montana’s wildest places.

Each Expedition session begins with a two-day orientation covering safety, leave no trace principles, and program basics, expectations, and logistics. Expedition crew members discover the MCC Program Objectives of communication and team skills, leadership skills, environmental stewardship, technical field skills, and the development of a strong service ethic directly through their crew experience and complementary daily education.

Projects will be a mix of “backcountry spikes” where crews will be packed a few miles into the project site, camping there for five to twelve days, and “front country spikes” where crews car camp near the project site. Expedition members are exposed to challenging physical work as well as the rigors of camp life. During the weekend crews have time off to get to know each other and the area that you they are working in through recreation, exploration, education, and relaxation.

Members connect to nature, gain outdoor skills, develop healthy relationships, and discover how they are part of the solution to community needs!

Session dates:
June 12 - July 9 or July 17 - August 13

Qualified individuals with disabilities and those from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. We provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals and are an equal opportunity employer.
