During the second week at MCC, my crew completed chainsaw training outside of the Glacier View Ranger Station and camped at Emery Bay campground. Both sites are located in Flathead National Forest near Hungry Horse, MT. We also took a group hike up to Kootenai Falls outside of Libby, MT on Friday to end the week.
During chainsaw training, we learned chainsaw safety and maintenance requirements and procedures as well as proper body position, ergonomics, and potential hazards to watch out for in the field. The Forest Service instructors were very informative and created a fun training environment. It was hot and the bugs were out so everyone was glad to get to the reservoir after Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s training.
On Friday, my crew of four plus our two leaders hiked up Kootenai Falls and set up a crew contract to refer to throughout the season for guidelines and expectations. Can’t wait for more! I LOVE MY JOB :)
