Veterans Green Corps Now Accepting Applications!

Veterans Green Corps (VGC) is a field-based opportunity for post 9/11 era Armed Forces Veterans and Service Members modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps. Enrolling in MCC is not a job; it’s a commitment to service, community, and the environment. Participants will address a variety of conservation needs while building on their skills in preparation for positions in resource management and wildland fire.

About the VGC Program

Veterans Green Corps (VGC) is a field-based opportunity for post 9/11 era Armed Forces Veterans and Service Members modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps. The VGC program is an experience that provides on the job training focusing in Wildland Firefighting and chainsaw technical skills. The Veterans Green Corps is based in the Central Divide (Helena, MT) region. Trainings are largely field based and are provided through a joint partnership with the Forest Service. Project work typically includes fuels reduction and thinning projects however it may also include other types of conservation service. Participants in the past have been called upon to support wildland fire suppression efforts in Montana.

Veterans Green Corps members receive their Incident Qualification Card (Red Card). The Incident Qualification Card is an accepted interagency certification that allows an individual to complete the required job when arriving on an incident or fire. Along with the Red Card, members will receive wildland firefighting certifications and other training at no cost. Leaders and Members continue to build on their experience of working as an effective team when they join the Veterans Green Corps. It is a great opportunity to network with Montana Conservation Corps partner agencies for future career opportunities.

Veterans with an honorable discharge or general discharge — under honorable conditions — are encouraged to apply.  Montana Conservation Corps’ Veteran Green Corps program is a VA approved non-college degree (NCD) training program. We also welcome veterans into any of our other programs!
