Who is a typical corpsmember?
The average age is 22, with a minimum age of 17 required and a typical range of 17 to 32 years. Educational levels are: 20% High School graduates/GED; 35% some college completed; and 45% college graduates.

What skills do the corpsmembers have?
Corpsmembers receive training in a wide array of technical skills, including: chainsaw, trails, back-country skills, leave no trace and first aid/CPR. They also gain the interpersonal skills needed to maintain a well-functioning crew.

What are the qualifications of the Crew Leaders?
Crew Leaders are hired by MCC for their previous leadership, back-country survival and/or technical experience. They complete a 3-month leader development program that includes both interpersonal skills and technical skills training. All leaders get certified with advanced first aid and CPR.

Are corpsmembers covered by insurance?
Corpsmembers are covered by MCC's Worker's Compensation Insurance. MCC carries a $3,000,000 general liability insurance policy and professional liability insurance.

What is the size of a typical crew?
Crew size ranges from five to eight people, on average two crew leaders and four to five corpsmembers.

What gear does MCC provide?
Basic hand tools, safety equipment, camping gear, and vehicles are provided by the MCC. Sponsors provide any specialized tools needed for the project.

What kind of work do the crews perform?
Typical projects include trail construction and maintenance, fencing, historical building restoration, watershed restoration, re-vegetation, tree planting, biological research, parks and campgrounds improvement, and minor public building improvements.

Is MCC a state agency?
No, MCC is a private 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors.

How much does it cost to have an MCC crew?
Of the total weekly crew cost of $4,500, MCC asks the sponsor to contribute $3,600 a week.

What is expected of me as an MCC sponsor?
All sponsors are asked to provide a technical advisor for the project. In addition, sponsors are asked to provide education for the crew; talk to a Regional Supervisor for more information.
