Mary Cochenour | Helena, MT
Mary graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a BA in Journalism and Business. She went on to study Law at the University of Montana. She is a lover of the outdoors having worked as a ski patroller, a river guide in the Grand Canyon, a wilderness ranger in Tahoe, and a backcountry guide. She also worked as a Content Creator for Outside Inc, Gaia GPS.
Mary has been a lawyer for over 20 years and currently works in environmental justice and civil litigation for the nonprofit organization, Earthjustice.
She's also a proud parent of an MCC alum! Her daughter Kennedy served on a 2-week Youth Expedition in Yellowstone in 2021. "Learning practical skills and working with her hands was really only a small part of the personal growth she experienced. Kennedy was exposed to different backgrounds and cultures, new ways of thinking and viewpoints, instruction on how to handle discourse, and the development of her own leadership traits and qualities. As a parent, I noticed a remarkable change in Kennedy’s confidence and independence upon her return home. I am excited to bring my perspective as a parent of a MCC youth participant to this board," she reflected.
Mary is excited to support MCC in its mission to continue providing rich experiences in both conservation and personal development to Montana’s youth. She believes MCC is valuable for creating potential future conservation leaders and champions within our state.
