Evan Shadix - Field Coordinator

Evan was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and spent his childhood exploring the dense forests of the Southeast. Throughout young adulthood, he had many interests in potential career paths, leading him to not declare a major at Georgia State University until his junior year. During college, he explored the culinary industry and the world of primary education, while still finding time to get outdoors for some mountain biking or hiking. After declaring a major in sociology with a focus on interactions between humans and the environment, purely out of academic interest, things became less clear on potential career paths.

Upon graduation, he joined a restoration crew with the Great Basin Institute on a whim, tending to the desert in the greater Las Vegas area. After a season in the Southwest, he knew that the work was perfect but the desert heat proved a bit much, and made the drive up to Montana in 2022. Since then, he’s done two seasons of backcountry trail work in the Frank Church Wilderness and a season as a Senior Crew Lead in the Central Divide office. Four seasons as an AmeriCorps member later, Evan is extremely excited to start his journey as a field coordinator!

Outside of work, Evan loves to explore Montana’s public lands using whatever mode of transportation the seasons allow for, from mountain biking and rafting in the summer, on foot in the shoulder seasons, and skiing throughout the winter. When he finally sits for a rest, he still usually has his saxophone or guitar in hand.
