On July 8th, Both Eureka YCC Crews were tasked to hike supplies up to the Mt. Wam Mountain Lookout for a restoration project. It was a bold yet exciting task for the crews as the hike is a 10 mile round trip with over 1000 feet of elevation gain. In order to keep crew morale up, we solved each others riddles and word games. Aside from the laughter and bonding we experienced, the views were breathtaking. Once we reached the top of the lookout, we made a fire and ate a delicious lunch. Some of the youth struggled to make it to the top but once completed, felt immense amounts of accomplishment and pride. It is truly amazing what we are capable of if we stay positive, work as a team, and set our minds towards a goal! We even proceeded to make the hike again about two weeks later to pack supplies back down the mountain and of course the kids knew what they were capable of and crushed their goal of making it to the top in even less time. The kids recognized their love of pushing themselves to their limits and continued to carry a growth mindset and excellent work ethic through the rest of the season. This was a huge milestone in our season.
