After several hitches in Idaho during which we hiked chainsaws up steep mountain trails, we got a welcome change for the last hitch of the season. Our final hitch was a planting hitch in Whitefish. We practiced our plant identification, learned about restoration methods, and soaked up the beautiful weather for the week! Over the week we installed weed mats, fencing, and planted approximately 600 plants. The biggest challenge of the week was to not fall into the marshy sections around the creek! The mud was abundant, and we would go home at the end of the day with mud-caked onto our boots and pants. Our project partner was amazing, and very open to our innovative methods of accomplishing tasks! It was the perfect hitch to end our season.
