Kalispell Planting Hitch 4/29-5/3

At this point of the season it has become clear that we have all grown fond of the Flathead Valley.  This was especially evident when our pre-season crew of leaders was all smiles after receiving the news that we would be working in Kalispell for the week.  The assignment was mainly to plant native trees in a city park to reforest an area adjacent to a housing development.  Although not as glamorous as spending a week in the wilderness, the people and the work was pleasant.
For me it was a project of firsts; my first time planting and my first time leading with my co-leader Kate.  The morning of Day 1 was as chaotic as you might expect for a “project of firsts” as Kate and I strove to understand and implement the Project Partner’s vision. Throughout the day, we fine-tuned our approach to working together and planting as efficiently as possible.  By changing from planting alone to finding the perfect assembly line with no back-log we doubled our planting pace.  All in all, a great week.
