Mud, Sweat and Tears

First day of the trip into Big Prairie has revealed so many things I can improve upon, just from a long walk. Most of the things I need to try and work on in the months to come are mental.

Out of our group I am by far the least experienced with this sort of thing, and it’s hard not to dwell on that. This is especially true when you’re knee-deep in fresh mud and trying to keep from falling over, all whilst juggling a crosscut in your hands.

I’m naturally a slow hiker anyway, but being in the early stages of getting used to this makes me even slower. Today especially I was berating myself for being so far behind everyone, which I know is unreasonable given that it’s literally the first day. The rest of the crew is being super understanding, so more than anything I need to learn to be patient while my endurance builds.

And to be fair, we all had a hard time with the mud.
