Both crews of the Veteran Green Corps completed firefighting guard school over the week of the 12th of June. This makes both crews fully qualified to combat wildfires.

The crews were taught by firefighters from the Helena National Forest at Hellgate Campground by Canyon Ferry Lake. Classroom instruction took place Monday through Thursday, and crew members were happy to get hands-on experience on Friday. While the weather prevented a live burn crew members dug a fireline, and applied skills they had learned throughout the week.

The skills and attitude demonstrated by MCC members will make them a valuable asset on any fire crew. In fact some members have already been offered positions on fire crews following completion of their MCC service. For this opportunity, the veteran crews would like to thank the MCC.

A great and important skill to have for every body because fire can cause havoc any where and every where, so like this veteran crew, if other social groups are encouraged to take up this course, we will have safer cities.
