Big Creek

A field of tents

Big Creek

I am no expert,
and neither are you!

We packed our bags,
with an excitement for the unknown.

Eager hands, all were itching to go.

With Powerpoints drilled,
and a gusto most profound.

We strode over our trails,
standing tall and proud.

The roar of the creek was the symphony,
the clatter of our tools,
a cacophony.

Alders were slashed and soil was moved,
the drains were many, to be improved.

The spruce grew thick,
but our boots held strong.

Down and across the valley below,
the peaks stood tall, and watched.

Bumping up and down,
jokes were cracked
and photos were snapped.

With great, full bellies
and happy hearts, we went to bed - with many dreams ahead.

The roar of the creek was our soundtrack,
but a thirst for adventure - we did not lack.

Hanky Panky, plip and plop,
the chill of the north wind -
gave way to a lullaby.

Many weary souls-
across the creek they went.
Tick checks ensued, and dry clothes were donned.

Saws were spun and limbs de-limbed,
muddy boots and cold lungs,
now
warm fires - and warmer hearts.

With knowledge ingrained,
and much more to learn.

A warm shower and hot meal,
we do yearn.

I am no expert,
and neither are you!!

alas, Big Creek will flow on,
and so will we too.
