For our first week of conservation work in Yellowstone National Park, our kids from different backgrounds and diverse experiences were successfully able to work together to reduce fire fuels in the Canyon Village area. We reduced fire fuels by cutting lodgepole pine saplings and dead/down logs onto the road for a chipper to spread that sawdust back into the wooded areas. Reducing these fire fuels helps prevent wildland fires near housing, buildings, and preserved wetlands. The next few days toward the end of the hitch, we bucked firewood and transported it to campsites near Grant Village. Lastly, we repaired the Grebe Weather Station fence.
