I was recently moved to a BDA crew and got to really see the prairie for the first time and it inspired a poem
Beautiful things
When you join MCC they tell you you will see beautiful places and beautiful things.
But you don’t truly understand what that means until you see them
The sunset on the prairie, the big sky painted purple and gold
The moon casting its pale glow over the plains
The screech of a hawk soaring overhead
The lows of a bison dusting
The rustle of a bunny sprinting past
Prairie dog squeaks
A mother mule deer nuzzling her fawn
Coyote howls at midnight
The rattle of a snake
Beautiful things that make you gasp and wonder
The awe of God’s most beautiful creation, once destroyed
Being made whole again
Laughter among friends, old and new
The hoot of an owl as you drift off
Peace under the prairie sun
