Youth Supercrew

A youth crew stands next to a Bitterroot National Forest sign

"How does a ragtag volunteer MCC crew, in need of a shower, somehow defeat the global Knapp weed power?
How did we emerge victorious from the Bitterroot?
Leave the trails clean?
And raise Bart the Bison higher?
Turns out we have a secret weapon:
The tools we used
The friends we made
The effort we put in
We’re constantly staining, maintaining, the different campgrounds
Everyone give it up for our crew leads Leo Luke and Megan!
MELUKO
We’re taking this hitch by the reins
Making raincoats wetter with rain stains
MELUKO
And we’re never going to stop until we drop
Loading up the wood remains and-
MELUKO
Watch us playin cards, fixin tarps, and coolin salt OH
MELUKO
We go to Darby for more nums
We come back with more gum
And chips
And so the end of hitch
We rendezvous with rangers and consolidate our rizz”
- Written by the youth participants in the Bitterroot Super Crew
-sung to the tune of Guns and Ships from Hamilton the musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda

The ten youth and three youth expedition leaders surpassed the US Forest Service expectations on their hitch to the Bitterroot in August of 2024.
When they were not at camp laughing and enjoying their time together they were grinding out project work. Whether that was moving firewood, trail work, or campground maintenance they showed up and gave it their all. They left with fond memories and inside jokes that will last a lifetime. With their crew mascot Bart the Bison they gave back to Montana through work that will impact the local community and all visitors to the Bitterroot National Forest. They left their 11-day hitch with new skills, friends, and a stronger passion for the outdoors.
