Stories from the Salmon

A crew stands on the shore of a mountain lake, with mountain peaks in the background.

I joined MCC with the expectation of getting to explore the beautiful state of Montana all summer. So when I showed up to orientation and found out I would be working exclusively in Idaho I was surprised. I had never heard of the Salmon-Challis National Forest and was excited to explore an area I may not have otherwise. The first drive along the Salmon River and I was in love. I have never seen anything quite like it. And yet, somehow the Salmon-Challis gets more and more breathtaking on every hitch. From camping in the Middle Fork, then exploring the North Fork, and then getting to spend sunny July days near Mackay seeing sights like Moose Lake and Surprise Valley, the Salmon-Challis never disappoints. I feel so lucky to get to spend my days beautifying and maintaining the trails here so that everyone can experience the beauty of the Salmon.
