This week the crew headed to the Pryor Mountains Wild Horse Range in Wyoming to remove sections of barbed wire to make the range fencing more friendly for wildlife. Specifically, the two lower strands on six-wire fences were removed, cut into pieces, rolled up, and hauled out to be recycled. The crew decided on the name 'The Barbers' in a nod to the many barbs they dealt with working on the project. The crew traversed the steep and rugged fence line that began at the administrative site and continued for 5 miles. Our BLM project partners for the expedition were Brittany, Lisa, and Ryan. Though temperatures climbed into the high 90's on multiple days, the crew stayed hydrated thanks to the H20 pro's that were elected to call out and enforce water breaks throughout the day.
The next stage of the project will involve spanning a single smooth wire on the bottom of the fence, to allow small animals to move freely, and without risk of injury, underneath the fence and by doing so, move between the range and the surrounding lands at will.
